Complete Dentures

Complete dentures are a type of removable prosthesis supported solely by soft tissue. They are a traditional treatment option for patients who have lost all their teeth and are not eligible for implant treatment due to economic, psychological, or physiological reasons. Stabilizing complete dentures, particularly for the lower jaw, can be challenging due to the movements of the tongue and cheek-lip tissues.

Tooth loss often leads to bone resorption, leaving the cheeks and lips unsupported, resulting in a sunken facial appearance. Complete dentures, with their soft-tissue-supporting base, restore an aesthetic appearance. Prepared using special impression techniques, complete dentures have a shorter production time compared to other prostheses.

Advantages

  • Provides an aesthetic solution by supporting soft tissue.
  • Short production time.
  • A painless and simple application.
  • Durable and long-lasting with proper care.
  • Cost-effective.

Maintenance and Usage

Complete dentures can be easily cleaned daily using a specialized denture brush and cleaning agents. Dentures should never be kept dry when removed from the mouth; they must be stored in a water-filled denture container.

Improper or insufficient cleaning may lead to fungal infections in the oral tissues in contact with the prosthesis. Proper denture care is essential for maintaining oral tissue health.

It is important to note that adjusting to complete dentures, especially in the lower jaw, can be more challenging for patients. Regular dental check-ups every six months are essential to evaluate the fit of the dentures and the health of the oral tissues. If issues with denture fit are identified, additional supportive applications such as relining may be necessary.
